I Am Norrin-El-Braxton, and my affection for art ignited in me when I was 7. I remember drawing a picture of a firebird that my aunt had, and she praised me a lot for it and brought me some drawing books and sketchbooks to allow me to practice my drawing skills. So I took the opportunity and filled the sketchbook with whatever artistry I had in my mind. In no time, my first coincidental drawing experience turned into an ultimate move of passion. After that, everything just came as a flow, and I enjoyed my involvement with art, canvases, brushes, colors and everything related to it. I was more moved by the thought of dealing with the paintings than I expected and was finding it very easy, which is probably why I never took the act seriously. Then came the turning point when a small amount of recognition changed myh perspective. During my seniorm year Art 2, my teacher put my drawing into the local art show and fortunately, it collected a prize. I felt the doors opening for me, my work got acknowledged by everyone who saw it, and it changed how I observed my talent. This series of felicitous events led me to look for more opportunities to polish my art skills. I went to James Madison University and studied all types of art. I wanted to focus on graphics, but I fell in love with painting and illustration. I also became proficient in Airbrushing clothes and silk screening. It all becomes easy when you do what you love. During my college days, I met my older cousin, Bernard Brooks, a world-renowned Artist with a collection of unique and signature art pieces. I learned about the basics of how to turn my passion for art into a full-grown business. Upon college completion, I began to travel and sell artwork everywhere to collect more acceptance from different people. That was when I decided to launch ‘Painted by Thoughts’, a designated platform for all my exclusive artwork.
Inspired by life and people, we are constantly evolving and becoming the better version of ourselves. My art expresses the human condition in all its glory from past to present.
My images range from childhood heroes, to metaphoric concepts of struggle and overcoming. Whatever resonates with my soul will get enshrined on canvas or paper
Depending on the concept of the imagery will depend on the media and/or multiple media that will be used for each peace. Some of my portraits are simple ink washes, while others are digital paintings that have been retouched. Then there are my oils and/or acrylics with resin glazes placed over a background of fabric.
For a career that has expanded more that 30 years I have sold work throughout the country. Developing hundreds of private collectors through home shows, and private events.
Dedicated an original work to the JMU alumni Association.
